Beautiful & bright Landscapes using Watercolor & Gouache

Received another great informative email this morning from Dan Scott of DrawPaintAcademy.com that introduced me to another incredible artist, Nathan Fowkes. Mr. Scott wrote: “His use of color just blows me away, particularly in his landscapes. The contrast is so sharp and the lights appear to glow.’

I looked at Mr. Fowkes’s landscapes and was blown away! The demonstration of light (and dark) in them is incredible. Breathtaking! Here is one of my favorites:

As I explored Mr. Fowkes’ Website I learned that he is also “is a working animation artist with screen credit on 12 feature films as well as a teacher of drawing, painting, color and design. His notable clients include DreamWorks, Disney, Blue Sky Studios, Paramount Animation and many others.”

When we watch an animated movie how often do we just take the artist for granted. The ‘About’ page lists 12 major animated works that he contributed to. Some of the ones that stand out to me are:

  • Shrek Forever After (DreamWorks Animation 2010)
  • How to Train Your Dragon (DreamWorks Animation 2010)
  • Shark Tale (DreamWorks Animation 2004)
  • Sinbad, Legend of the Seven Seas (DreamWorks Animation 2003)
  • The Prince of Egypt

Mr. Fowkes is also the author of two books:
